Morton Seidel came to California from New York over 100 years ago, looking for the perfect place to play tennis year-round. And he found more than he expected.
Morton was able to play tennis. However, he also started working in finance and in 1925, founded his successful brokerage firm, Morton Seidel & Company, Inc. After getting married and having children, his son Arnold Seidel took over the family business despite holding a zoology doctorate degree. Arnold later married Joan, a schoolteacher at the time. Once Joan had her first son, she dedicated herself to caring for her family. That was until her father-in-law asked her to join the firm to keep it a family-run business. And so she did.
Almost 100 years later, since the founding of Morton Seidel & Company, Inc., Joan keeps the family’s name alive through the firm as the family’s survivor, helping hundreds of clients each year make financial decisions that will impact their future.
“I support the Food Bank because I think it serves many different purposes along with providing food, which is essential,” Joan said. “I think it contributes to the health of individuals and the community.”
According to a study by USC Dornsife, 30% of LA County households are struggling with food insecurity. A $1 donation to the Food Bank goes a long way toward helping our neighbors in need. Joan and the Seidel family have made significant contributions to help provide hundreds of thousands of meals to those who count on the Food Bank to put food on the table.
Thanks to the donations from the Seidel family, the Food Bank can help feed children, adults and seniors who do not know where their next meal may come from. If you would like to be part of the community that helps end hunger in Los Angeles County, consider donating to the LA Regional Food Bank.
