Los Angeles Regional Food Bank representatives teamed up with KTLA members at the Citadel Outlets in Commerce and accepted food and financial donations from community members on December 5. The event raised 5,862 pounds of food and nearly $900 to alleviate food insecurity in Los Angeles County.
Helpful Honda donated $1,000 worth of food, Citadel donated food and others made on-air donations to the Food Bank from 6 am through 11 am that morning.
Apart, Yet Together
The Food Bank has been partnering with Citadel Outlets for 5 years now. In line with a transformative year, this event’s traditional format was adapted to a drive-through event to maintain social distancing to keep everyone involved as safe as possible while also coming together for a good cause in helping the food-insecure community.
Our community’s generosity and events like Take 5 to Care Food Drive have helped the Food Bank meet the heightened demand for food assistance. Continued support from the community allows us to increase the number of people served from 300,000 a month to almost 1 million food-insecure children, seniors, families and individuals throughout LA County through our partner agency network of 700 different organizations and direct distributions.
While the style of the event changed, the goal of this year’s Take 5 to Care Food Drive and our mission remain the same: no one goes hungry in LA County. Support from the community at events like this helps us get closer to that vision.
