Western Avenue Elementary School has been partnering with the Food Bank since 2013 to increase access to healthy food for low-income members of their community. The program serves 150 families at the school by providing food kits containing shelf-stable items, as well as fresh produce and bread.
Because of our generous supporters, kids not only receive healthy food, but they and their families can build healthy eating habits which contribute to long-term wellness. Please read some of the notes we received from children and parents who benefit from your compassion:
“I would just like to thank you for all of the food that has been given to my family. There have been several times when we were without food and the food we received from the Food Bank provided meals until we got our food stamps the following month. My children and I are now eating fruits on a daily basis. Before, we would mostly eat refined sugars instead of natural sugars. Thank you for the walnuts last month. Instead of chips, we would crunch on the nuts, a much healthier choice. I especially appreciate the milk boxes. Overall, your program provides nutritional foods and helps us make it through.” – Parent
