Walmart Gives Over $14 Million to Los Angeles Area Charities

Los Angeles, Calif. (December 21, 2018) – As part of their mission to use their strengths to make a difference, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation announce they have donated more than $61 million in cash and in-kind contributions to non-profit organizations in California, including more than $14 million in Los Angeles, during FY18. Walmart is uniquely positioned to support organizations that create opportunities so people can live better. These donations support Los Angeles programs focused on hunger relief, healthy eating, workforce development and disaster preparedness.

In Los Angeles, Walmart’s contributions include: In Los Angeles, Walmart donated nearly 8 million pounds of food to local food banks and hunger relief organizations during FY18, which is the equivalent of 6,596,791 meals.

“The need in Los Angeles County is great. Roughly one in seven of our neighbors may not know where their next meal is coming from.” said Michael Flood, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. “We would like to thank Walmart for their generous donations throughout 2018 that has given meals to needy families in Los Angeles. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Walmart in the years to come.”

In addition, Walmart encourages associates to get involved with charitable organizations that matter to them, their families and the communities they serve. In Los Angeles, Walmart associates performed 6,244 hours of volunteer service in their communities throughout FY18.Young man eating food

The Walmart Foundation supports organizations by awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S. In addition, Walmart U.S. stores, clubs and distribution centers award cash grants to support local nonprofits. The Walmart Foundation also provides funds for equipment, trucks and logistical expertise to support non-profit organizations extend their reach and impact and help those in need.
