As wind advisories pick up throughout our region due to the ongoing wildfires, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, California Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Kim Johnson and California’s Chief Service Officer Josh Friday were on hand as pallets of food resources arrived at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s City of Industry distribution center to support our neighbors impacted by the area’s wildfires, power outages, evacuations, water advisories and unhealthy air quality. A total of 25,000 food boxes are headed to the impacted region, thanks to $1 million in state emergency funding.
“California remains committed to fighting food insecurity — a commitment that is especially important during times of great need, such as disasters, when many families have been displaced or suffered great losses,” said California Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Kim Johnson. “These emergency food benefits and timely flexibilities will have an immediate impact, helping ensure that people have food during a very challenging time.”
“This will likely be a prolonged effort lasting not just days, but weeks,” LA Regional Food Bank President and CEO Michael Flood shared. “We’re incredibly grateful for the volunteers at our distribution centers, those supporting partner agency sites, and the many donors—whether contributing food, funds, or in-kind support—who make our work possible. We also want to thank the First Partner and the Secretary for supporting the Food Bank and helping deliver critical resources to our neighbors who were impacted during this challenging time.”
The disaster relief boxes delivered to the City of Industry included food resources such as shelf-stable pear halves in juice, fruit mix, green peas, carrots, tuna, white chicken, chicken with rice and beans, white rice, multigrain cereal and milk.
Through the kindness of our community, the Food Bank and partner agencies across LA County can continue to provide essential food and nutrition assistance to those impacted by the wildfires and beyond. Please consider joining the fight against hunger.
