DoorDash, whose mission is to deliver good by connecting people and possibility, celebrated the success of its Project DASH (DoorDash Acts for Sustainability and Hunger) program by breaking the Guinness World record for the Largest Canned Food Mosaic. This mosaic was made from more than 6,000 cans, all of which will be donated to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
DoorDash also sponsored an Instagram competition which generated more than $5,000 for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, a highly efficient charity. Financial gifts multiply in impact when combined with other cash donations, purchased and donated foods, so that 97% of every dollar goes back to the community.
“While we are always happy to receive food donations,” said Chief Development Officer, Roger Castle, “we are also grateful for the financial contribution that is likely to exceed $5,000. Because the Food Bank can help provide 4 meals for each $1 donated, this will provide more than 20,000 meals for our neighbors in need, including fresh fruits and vegetables.”
This visually stunning mosaic is a 22 x 25 ft installation in the design of an elephant, which represents the sheer weight of food rescued and transported to hunger relief nonprofits by DoorDash’s Project DASH initiative to date, totaling 625,000 pounds – the weight of approximately 48 African bush elephants. The elephant also represents the enormity of the hunger problem in the United States, including Los Angeles. It is estimated that 1.4 million people struggle with food insecurity in Los Angeles alone.
“Our favorite record attempts at Guinness World Records are those that bring people together, not only to make history and achieve something Officially Amazing, but also to give back to the community and make the world a better place,” said Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Christina Conlon. “Today’s attempt by DoorDash is a wonderful example.”
If you are looking for something fun and unique to do this weekend, be sure to swing by the mosaic at the Santa Monica Pier. Make sure to use #deliveringgoodsweepstakes and @doordash to enter the sweepstakes, and use #WeFeedLA and @LAFoodBank to spread the word and support the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The display will be up until Sunday at 6:00 in the evening.
