Birthdays and Thanksgiving Celebrations Carry On as Planned, Thanks to Food Pantries

Birthdays and Thanksgiving Celebrations Carry On as Planned, Thanks to Food Pantries

Thanks to the food pantry at Sowing Seeds For Life, Romy, a senior, can celebrate his wife’s birthday and Thanksgiving.

Birthdays, special occasions and holidays all come together in one place: the dining table. For some, celebrating another year around the sun, an accomplishment, or a holiday like Thanksgiving can be nerve-wracking with the cost of food and the rise in prices of everyday goods, rent, utilities and transportation.

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and its partner agencies help put food on the table, not just during the holidays but year-round. Partner agencies like Sowing Seeds for Life in Pomona make a remarkable difference in their community.

Twice a month, the non-profit organization holds food distributions in a church parking lot along with groups of volunteers ready to greet their neighbors with a smile and a box of nutritious food to help celebrate birthdays or simply everyday meals.

Romy and His Family Will Have a Thanksgiving and Birthday Dinner Thanks to Sowing Seeds

Romy was among the first cars lined up for the Thanksgiving food distribution at Sowing Seeds. With a huge smile on his face, Romy told the Food Bank that thanks to the food he received at that distribution, specifically the turkey, he and his family of 15 would be having a feast as they would combine his wife’s birthday with Thanksgiving.

“We’re retired,” he said. “We’re just day-to-day trying to get our food.”

Every day can be a special occasion. Obtaining nutritious food shouldn’t be something available only during the holiday season. Consider becoming a monthly Food Bank supporter and helping our neighbors year-round.
