Fighting Hunger over the Weekend – The BackPack Program

Fighting Hunger over the Weekend – The BackPack Program

Miles Avenue Elementary School in Huntington Park is one of nine under-served schools enrolled in the Food Bank’s BackPack Program. This program is designed to ensure that kids who rely on school meals do not go hungry over the weekend when school meals are not available. Before the weekend, students receive a kit containing enough food for at least six nutritious meals, along with a packet of nutrition information, activities and healthy recipes.

We visited Miles Avenue and interviewed parent volunteers and guardians of students enrolled in the program to learn more about its impact.
